Getting excited? Nope. Sorry…
As our adventure approaches, one of the most common questions I’m asked is whether I’m ‘getting excited’ about our trip. And you know what? I’m not. It’s not that I don’t relish the chance to go globetrotting, but a) I still don’t entirely believe that we’re doing this and b) I’m so busy at work and with tying up loose ends (sorting out the rental of the flat, deferring student loan payments, moving stuff out of the flat etc…) that I mostly feel… well, mostly feel busy!
I’m sure this will subside as time goes on, more loose ends are tied up and work dies down. At which point busy may well transform into overwhelming fear as I think about all of the finely balanced variables that will make this trip safe and enjoyable. I don’t remember feeling this when I was younger; maybe this is just a symptom of getting old.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m really looking forward to this. Especially the opportunity to spend so much time with Amy and experience amazing things together. But I won’t believe it’s happening until our flight has left the runway at Heathrow.
